Love Lizzy - What foundation is right for you?
Welcome to the first ever Love Lizzy Blog!
I'm so excited to have this space to share my passion for the things in life that make us feel beautiful.
Today's article is about foundation, which has the power to change your look like nothing else. Foundation makes average skin fabulous skin. It's a canvas for the products to follow, evening out skin tone, covering imperfections. There's no need to worry about foundation clogging your pores. Quality brands will protect, beautify and enhance your skin and you can wear them every day.
Here are our top tips for choosing a foundation that meets your needs. Start by answering these questions:
- What is my skin type?
- What are my skin challenges?
- e.g. redness, pigmentation, blemishes
- Light or full coverage?
- Matte, dewy, or powder finish?
- Do I want to do touch ups during the day?
- Are anti-aging ingredients or SPF important to me?
Here's the low down on three main types of foundation:
Liquid foundation is easy to apply and blend. You can adjust the coverage and use a sponge or foundation brush, which uses 30% less product. Matte finish is a good choice for young or oily skin. Dewy formulations are better for mature skin.
Mineral foundation contains a handful of natural ingredients. It's ideal for sensitive skin and provides a flattering, luminous coverage. that works well for everyone. A compact formulation is easy to use and keep in your handbag for touch ups. Loose minerals are a luxurious alternative best applied before you leave the house.
Cream-to-powder foundation is portable and convenient. It comes in a compact and you apply it with a sponge or brush. Touching the skin with a creamy texture, it settles into a powdery matte finish. Avoid this option if your skin is very oily, as it doesn't keep oil in check. It's not great for dry or mature skin either, due to the powdery finish. Got normal skin? You can wear it.
To colour match your foundation, test three shades that look closest to your skin colour. In natural light, blend a small stripe of each along your jawline. The back of your hand is not the same shade as your face. The one that disappears into your skin is your perfect match.
