New Year, New Me! A List of Beauty New Year’s Resolutions

The new year is the perfect time to be thinking about self-improvement, as the saying goes “new year, new me”. It is likely that you’ve written a few new year’s resolutions of your own, I know I have. Most years our resolutions look pretty similar; clean up our diets, hit the gym more, practice gratitude... but have you ever thought to include some beauty-specific resolutions? Today we’ll discuss some beauty-related pledges to help you kick off 2023 with glowing skin, luscious hair, and a few nifty beauty tricks up your sleeve...

BEAUTY NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

1. Take the time

Sometimes at the end of the day, the last thing we feel like doing is standing over the bathroom sink and doing a multiple-step skincare routine. However, practicing a skincare regime in the evening is essential, as our skin has been exposed to dirt, pollution, makeup, sunscreen, and free radicals throughout the day. A great new year’s resolution here is to make sure you are setting aside a small amount of time, perhaps only 15 minutes, to really take the time to look after your skin in the evening so it just becomes a natural habit. Taking this time will help you to keep your clean, hydrated, and youthful, so it’s definitely worth keeping up in the new year.

2. Use SPF religiously

Okay, okay, I know... I sound like a broken record with this one! But SPF is so essential for skin health and anti-aging. A lot of us have made putting on SPF in the morning a part of our routines. However, many of us (myself included) tend to be on the slack side when it comes to reapplying throughout the day. Generally, sunscreen should be reapplied every 2-3 hours, especially when we are in direct sunlight, sweating, or swimming. For a long time, I would never reapply my sunscreen throughout the day as I would wear makeup on top of the first application, however, it is okay to reapply sunscreen on top of your makeup! Simply opt for a spray-on SPF for reapplication, or carry your liquid sunscreen in your purse along with a low-absorbency beauty sponge to lightly dab it on top of your skin. Especially during a Kiwi or Aussie summer, this is essential!

3. Experiment

As we head into the new year, it is the perfect time to push the boat out when it comes to beauty. Test the waters! Try a new skincare product and switch up your routine if you’re still finding what works for you. Beyond skincare, experimenting with new makeup is a great way to push the limits of your comfort zone and amp up your makeup looks. Don’t be afraid to spice things up in 2023!

4. Stay on top of trims

Because life gets so busy, it is likely that you weren’t getting routine haircuts in 2022. So, a good resolution to add to your list is to stay on top of any split or dry ends by getting regular trims. Hairdressers typically recommend getting a haircut approximately once every 3 to 4 months. Regular trims are important as they encourage hair growth, deal with problematic ends and keep your hair looking fresh and neat. Regular haircuts are a great way to maintain your self-care routine this year!

5. Use a silk pillowcase

Change up your sleep space this year by investing in a good-quality silk pillowcase. Why do you ask? Well, silk pillowcases can bring about several beauty benefits that are worth experiencing this year. Silk pillowcases provide a smooth surface with little friction, meaning they can help to prevent wrinkles, and frizzy hair, and aid in keeping skin smooth and hydrated. Make sure you are also washing or changing your pillowcase at least once a week to prevent bacteria from causing breakouts.

The new year is the perfect time to adopt some positive beauty habits so that you are putting your best foot forward in 2023. Give our beauty resolutions a try to keep you on top of the beauty game!
